My name is Julie Scott, and I am thrilled to be your child's classroom teacher this year. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Birth-Kindergarten Education and a minor in psychology. I started working at Lockhart Elementary in December of 2015 and have enjoyed my time here. I feel fortunate to work at such a wonderful school. Previously, I worked for the YMCA Youth Programs for five years in various positions supporting young children and their families.
I was born and raised in Raleigh and can't imagine living anywhere else. I have been married for just over a year, and we have a dog named Beau. Beau is a German-Shepherd/ Lab mix who was 6 pounds when we got him, but now he is a 60 pound ball of energy! On weekends I enjoy taking Beau for a run at the park, or working on a craft project at home. I love learning new things, and often listen to podcasts as I run or craft. Currently, my favorite podcast is Stuff You Should Know.
My educational philosophy most closely resembles the work of the psychologist Lev Vygotsky. I believe that young children learn best through play and hands on activities, with an appropriate amount of teacher guidance and support. In other words, my goal is to empower your child to solve problems by providing the support they need to be successful, but not so much support that I am completing the task for them. I also aim to partner with you to support your child and help them reach their full potential. I look forward to partnering with you this school year!

My name is Sha'ron W. Mitchell and I am so excited to be your child's classroom teacher assistant this school year. I am a 2002 graduate from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Social Work. I started working at Lockhart Elementary in August of 2015, but have been affiliated with Lockhart since July 2009. I am also the treasurer for our school PTA. This is a 4th year as treasurer.
I am currently a resident of Knighdale NC. I love my small, but rapidly growing, town. I have been with my husband, Dexter, also an educator and insurance agent, for 16 years. We have have two children, Demarius,12, and Samaya, 9. I am actively involved in my community as well (part of the East Wake Football League-Knightdale Knights, and NC Hustle, a traveling basketball league). My family is my life and I would not trade anything in the world for my love ones!
I have been working with children for over 18 years. I love children. I love their innocence and the way they view the world. I call kids little sponges, because they want to soak up everything they learn! We have to nuture them in a positive manner so they can become healthy and well-adjusted adults. I look forward to partnering with you this school year!
